English Reformation

While there are great things going on with the Reformation on the European
continent, a similar movement begins in London. While it doesn’t begin with a
truly theological foundation, the English Reformation has its many twists and
turns through its history.

Beginning with King Henry VIII’s desire to divorce Catherine of Aragon, the
sixteenth century also sees great turmoil thanks to his children–King Edward
VI, Queen Mary I, and Queen Elizabeth I. Outside of the royal family, we must
also consider Thomas Wolsey, Thomas Cromwell, and Thomas Cranmer’s
contributions to the movement that leads to the 1549 Book of Common Prayer and
the Thirty-Nine Articles.
