Ultimate World Heavyweight Title Match: Stone Cold Steve Austin def. Curt Hennig (c) – NEW CHAMPION (49:15)
Hennig and Austin have an amazing match for the Ultimate World Heavyweight Title. The two go back and forth with the advantage before Austin sends Hennig over the top rope with a clothesline. Austin takes control from that moment before getting the pin after the Stunner.
World Series of Wrestling – Semifinal: Goldust vs ‘Heart Break Kid’ Shawn Michaels, DOUBLE COUNTOUT (1-2-1) (4:14)
Goldust and Michaels quickly end their match by brawling through the ropes and up the aisle. After both men are counted out, Michaels sends Goldust off the entrance ramp with the Sweet Chin Music.
World Series of Wrestling – Semifinal: Arn Anderson def. Stan ‘The Lariat’ Hansen (2-2) (20:16)
Tonight’s first match in the World Series of Wrestling sees Arn even up the series against Stan after a DDT. The two raise the bar on the violence that happens in the ring, but they keep the action completely inside the ring.
Honky Tonk Man def. Dean Malenko (9:39)
Honky Tonk Man shows himself to be the better wrestler in this match, getting the pin after the Shake, Rattle and Roll.
Harlem Heat def. Moondogs (23:57)
Harlem Heat prove their street cred as they hold their own against the Moondogs. The two teams throw the rulebook out the window very early, and the referee doesn’t want to argue with them about it. Booker T gets the pin on Moondog Spot after a Book End through a table propped against the turnbuckle.
Diamond Dallas Page def. ‘Living Legend’ Larry Zbyszko (26:51)
Page and Zbyszko have a wonderfully scientific match. Page looks for many opportunities to get a quick win with the Diamond Cutter, but Zbyszko has it well-scouted. Zbyszko has Page trapped in Trip to Larry Land, but the referee forces him to break it. Zbyszko argues with the referee that it wasn’t a choke. Page gets back to his feet and hits the Diamond Cutter for the pin.
Sheepherders def. D. Lo Brown & Godfather (7:11)
The Sheepherders take their time dismantling Brown for the bulk of the match. Godfather tries to get involved to save his partner, but it simply allows more double-teaming by the Sheepherders. Brown gets the hot tag, but the referee doesn’t see it. As Godfather is made to leave the ring, Luke jabs the New Zealand flag into Brown’s throat to get the pin.
Backstage: Rude is preparing for a promo backstage with Lance Russell, but Garvin nails him from behind with a chair cart. Garvin takes a few of the chairs off the cart to batter Rude until security drags him away.
Eric Embry def. ‘Universal Heartthrob’ Austin Idol, COUNTOUT (4:12)
Embry and Idol have the start of a brilliant match. However, it ends quickly after Idol falls out of the ring from a dropkick. Instead of getting back into the ring, Idol walks back to the dressing room.
‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude def. ‘Gorgeous’ Jimmy Garvin (3:22)
Rude and Garvin have a quick match that riles up the fans in attendance. Rude gets the pin after the Rude Awakening, but the fight doesn’t end with the bell.
When Garvin gets back to his feet, he challenges Rude to try it again. The referees separate the two men, but Garvin refuses to back down from another fight with Rude.
‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams def. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, DQ (2:36)
Adams and Lawler had a great feud throughout the years in Pro Wrestling America. It seems appropriate that we keep it going in Ultimate Championship Wrestling.
Lawler gets fed up with Adams’ ability to counter most of Lawler’s offense until Lawler tosses him over the top rope to earn the disqualification.
‘Canadian Crippler’ Chris Benoit def. Jeff Jarrett (8:40)
Jarrett and Benoit have a brilliant match. Jarrett has things under control after a superplex. While Jarrett struts around the ring, Benoit gets back to his feet. Jarrett goes for a lariat, but Benoit counters it with the Crippler Crossface in the middle of the ring.
Bubba Ray Dudley vs ‘Dirty’ Dutch Mantell, TLD (15:00)
Dudley and Mantell brawl for the entire time limit without either wrestler getting the upper hand. After the match ends, Mantell grabs Shoe-Baby and knocks Dudley out with it.
‘Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels def. Iron Mike Sharpe (2:21)
Daniels makes quick work out of Sharpe, but Sharpe gets a bit of revenge after the match by loading the arm brace and knocking Daniels off the entrance ramp with a violent lariat.
Michael Hayes def. ‘Hot Stuff’ Eddie Gilbert (4:44)
The card starts out with a match that will see a bit more fleshing out next week as both men will be involved in the Ultimate Brass Knuckles Title Tournament in Spokane. Tonight’s match shows Gilbert being overconfident and Hayes taking advantage of it to get the pin with a small package.
