Daily Walk in the Catechism

368. Why should we be concerned about receiving the Sacrament worthily?

The Sacrament of the Altar is not our supper, but the Lord's Supper, where He gives us His body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. To eat and drink the Lord's body and blood without trust in His words, however, is to eat and drink judgment on oneself.

1 Corinthians 11:27-28 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
