335. Why do we refer to this authority as the power of the Keys?
Even as keys lock and unlock, so the authority to forgive and retain sins opens and closes Heaven. Jesus gives two keys to His Church: One key absolves from sin and opens Heaven. The other key retains sins and closes Heaven to those who are impenitent.
Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.
