Father’s Day Litany
A special Litany for Father’s Day. This was derived from the Mother’s Day Litany.
For men who have become fathers this year, that they may celebrate God’s gift of a child by bringing him/her to the waters of Baptism and raising them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who are expecting their first child, that father, mother and child may have God’s grace and favor throughout the pregnancy to be safe and that the child may be delivered healthy and brought to the waters of Baptism for the new birth in Christ, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who have lost a child through miscarriage, whose joy has been turned into sadness, that God’s mercy may comfort them and help them accept God’s mysterious yet good and gracious will in this sorrow, reminding them of Jesus’ life-giving Word, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who have lost a child through stillbirth or whose child has died shortly after birth, that they may be strengthened by God’s grace in their sorrow to trust in their heavenly Father and to depend on His boundless mercy and made confident for their child’s invitation into Jesus’ loving arms, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who have endured and still endure the stresses of complications or disabilities, whose child, by none other fault than our shared sinful nature, needs special attention, that God’s care and love for their child may encourage them to patiently endure with peace and strength the cross that they and their child must bear in this life, let us pray to the Lord.
For men who desperately want a child but cannot conceive a child, or their wife cannot bring a child to term, that they may be reminded that God has promised to never leave them nor forsake them, that they may cast their cares upon Christ who bore all our sufferings and that God may bring a child into their life to show their love through adoption, foster care or by being a loving Uncle, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who have adopted a child or are a stepfather, that they may give thanks to God for the blessing of their child, not born to them but given to them to love by God, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who suffer the shame of choosing to abort their child, that they may find solace and forgiveness in God’s Word, that God may protect them from the accusing voices both from others but also from within and that their faith in their loving heavenly Father may ever be increased, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who desired their child to be aborted and feel no shame, that God’s Word may soften their hardened heart to see their sin and to repent of it and that, in repentance, they also may hear God’s forgiveness, let us pray to the Lord.
For fathers who have a child missing for any reason of estrangement, that their hearts may be calmed with heavenly peace and patience and that God may move both parent and child into a place where reconciliation may occur, let us pray to the Lord.
