Jim Crockett Sr. made his mark on professional wrestling in Virginia and the Carolinas. Over the course of the mid-1980s, he and his son merged their territory with those in Georgia, Florida and Mid-South. The promotion would eventually be bought out by Ted Turner and renamed World Championship Wrestling, after the weekly Saturday evening program which had been called that for years.
