12 Days Moses

As with yesterday, you are thinking about the Christian faith and hear the number five. What's your first thought? The five book of Moses, the Torah, the Pentateuch: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

Moses was God's chosen leader to bring the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and into the Promised Land. He was a man who was encumbered with his own weaknesses. God had chosen him in spite of his weaknesses. He had no other choice. No one ever born of man has been without weaknesses. But God molded Moses into a figure that is highly revered by Jews, Christians and Muslims.

Not only did God choose Moses as a political leader. God inspired him to write the history of the world from the beginning of Creation until his own death. The ups and downs. The dirty little secrets. The laws of the land and the Tabernacle. The Gospel promises of deliverance from sin and everlasting life. Moses wrote it all.

These five books have been seen as the "gold standard" for understanding God as the Creator and Preserver of the world. Everything written in these books points to Jesus as the Savior. You can only understand these points through the Holy Spirit. The Trinity is very active in these books, delivering Law and Gospel. All this comes as God works through Moses to proclaim His will. Amen.
